Search Anything

One search box sits in the header of every page, and Ctrl + K (Cmd + K on a Mac) opens it from anywhere. Type what you remember, a model name, a column, a warehouse table, a job, a person, a line of SQL, and the results arrive grouped by what they are, each one with its current state and the actions you would take next. You never have to know which page a thing lives on before you can find it.

What It Finds

Results come back in groups, in a fixed order so your eye learns where to look:

GroupWhat is in itEnter opens
FilesFiles in your project on the branch you are working onThe editor, on that file
CodeLines inside your SQL and YAML, and in the compiled SQL of the last buildThe editor at that exact line
CatalogModels, sources, seeds, snapshots, tests, exposures, metrics, macros, and dbt 2.0 functionsThe object in Atlas Catalog
ColumnsColumns across catalog models and warehouse tablesThe column, with its lineage one click away
Warehouse objectsTables, views, and columns in your connected warehouses, including connections you have never expandedThe Database Explorer, selected
Scheduled jobs and RunsJobs by name or tag, runs by status or numberThe job, or the run with its log
Environments, Connections, Projects, WorkspacesYour workspace's setupThe matching settings page
PeopleMembers of your organizationTheir profile and what they own

Pick a scope at the right of the box: this project, this workspace, or the whole organization. It starts at the narrowest scope that makes sense for where you are and remembers the project you were last in.

Close Enough Counts

A typo does not send you back to the box. fct_ordrs still finds fct_orders; the row is marked ~ close match so you can tell an exact hit from a near one. Wrap a phrase in quotes for an exact match, and combine alternatives with OR.

Narrow With a Prefix

Plain text searches everything. A prefix narrows the search to one kind of thing. Click Search syntax at the bottom of the box for the full list, and click any prefix to insert it:

PrefixFinds
col: order_idEvery model and warehouse table with that column
sql: surrogate_key or code:Every file and compiled model containing that text, with the matching lines
model: fct_Models by name, also source:, seed:, snapshot:, test:, exposure:, metric:, macro:, function:
@mariaEverything owned by a person, from catalog owners or dbt meta
#financeEverything carrying a tag
run: failedRecent runs by status or number, also job:, env:, conn:, db:, project:, workspace:
>Commands: go to a page, open a settings tab, toggle the theme, list shortcuts

Searching Inside Your Code

sql: and code: look inside the text of your project, not just at names. Every hit shows the line number and the line itself, so you can tell which occurrence you want before you open anything:

  • Hits on your branch open in the editor with the cursor on that line
  • Hits in the compiled SQL of the last build open the read-only compiled version, so you can see exactly what ran, macros expanded and all
  • A hit in the source of the last build opens the authored file, with a note that the line may have moved since that build

"Which models still use the old surrogate key macro" is a two-second question instead of a project-wide grep followed by a walk through the results.

Results Carry Their Current State

A result is not just a name. Where dbdeux knows the state of a thing, it shows it on the row so you can act without opening it:

  • Models: whether the last run passed or failed and how long it took, freshness for sources, the owner, and a changed on your branch marker when the file differs from the default branch
  • Jobs and runs: last run status and time, and a Frozen note when maintenance mode is on for the workspace
  • Warehouse objects: the connection and type

Under each result are the actions you would take next. A model offers Show in DAG, Preview, Run, Test, and Compiled SQL; a column offers Lineage; a job whose last run failed offers Run now and Failure summary; an environment offers its Variables, Validate, and Test connection tabs directly. Run and Test hand the selector to the editor's run toolbar with the target already filled in, so you confirm rather than retype.

When Search Is Not the Right Tool

Sometimes what you typed is a question, not a name. If the query reads like one, or the results are thin or empty, the last row offers Ask Atlas with the same words. Press Enter and Atlas opens with your question already sent, grounded in the project you were searching. You do not have to decide up front whether to search or to ask.

Commands and Pages

Type > and the box becomes a command list: go to any page (Go to Scheduled Jobs, Go to Atlas Catalog), open a specific settings tab (Organization settings: Notifications, Project settings: Slimmer CI, User preferences), create a new environment, toggle light and dark theme, hide the sidebar, or show the keyboard shortcuts. Each command shows its shortcut where one exists, so the list doubles as a way to learn them.

The box remembers what you opened and what you searched for recently, so the empty state is usually the fastest route back to the thing you were just looking at. Both lists can be cleared with one click.
